Last Thursday, the Address Dubai Marina hosted the Waste Management and Circular Economy Conference organized by Waste & Recycling magazine and Media Fusion. Bringing together over 250 experts from around the world, the event brings lights on the gaps between ambition and action in achieving a circular economy.
Bridging the Gap Between Ambition and Action
During the conference’s panel discussions, it became evident that the gaps between ambition and actions are universal challenges. The panelists and audience agreed that these gaps manifest in the form of policies, actions, cooperation, awareness, and technical leadership. However, what stood out was the lack of representation from organizations responsible for addressing these gaps. Dr. Rashed Mohamed Karkain rightly highlights this irony, afterwards even questioning if this phenomenon extends to other conferences in various sectors.
The question raised by Dr. Karkain is thought-provoking. Are these gaps between expertise and the willingness to learn and implement change a common occurrence in conferences across diverse fields such as healthcare, education, artificial intelligence, engineering, and leadership? Experts willingly share their knowledge and experiences, yet the intended recipients, those responsible for implementing change, often fail to actively participate or acknowledge existing challenges and problems. This gap in knowledge exchange and action is a significant issue in itself.
It is crucial to raise awareness and foster cooperation among all stakeholders. These conferences serve as a vital platform for sharing insights, lessons learned, and best practices. They provide an opportunity for organizations to gain valuable knowledge from experts and collaborate to tackle common challenges. It is essential to encourage active participation from those responsible for implementing change.
By recognizing and addressing the gaps, we can collectively work towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future, every step counts.
