Last 15 February 2022, Dubai took a very significant step towards sustainability with the launch of the initiative, Dubai Can.
The city-wide campaign, launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, is here to encourage Dubai residents as well as visitors to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles in favor of reusable ones. The program aims to reduce plastic waste that ends up in landfills and oceans and make easier access to safe drinking water across the city.
Dubai Can initiative cuts the consumption of over 7 million 500ml single-use plastic water bottles.
In only a year, the Dubai initiative estimates to have already cut the consumption of over 7 million 500ml single-use plastic water bottles, by providing over 50 public water stations across Dubai where everyone can refill their bottles for free. The stations are easily accessible and strategically placed across the city, including Kite Beach, Dubai World Trade Center, Zabeel Park, Madinat Jumeirah, and many other locations, making it easier to switch to reusable bottles.
On top of protecting the environment, the Dubai Can initiative raises awareness of the importance of sustainability and encourages us all to take responsibility for our carbon footprint. By taking this step and using a reusable bottle, we can significantly impact the planet in a good way. Every step counts.
To reassure some of us the water refill stations are equipped with advanced filtration systems, to make sure the water is clean and safe to drink.
We all have noticed these refill stations popping up in the city, and it is great to see people taking this step toward sustainability. We believe that Dubai Can is a great step towards a greener and more sustainable future for Dubai, the UAE, and the next generations.
